Marcel Berlanger was born in 1965 in Brussels where he lives and works today. Learning the ropes in painting at an early age from his grandfather Walter Hasseweer, he studied at ERG (Graphic Research School), notably with Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Marc Vanhove, Marthe Wéry and Pierre Carlier. After graduating he met Jan de Nys and has been working with him since the In Situ gallery opened in 1993. He takes part in several collective exhibitions in Belgium and abroad while holding a teaching position at ERG. His interest in painting and his interaction with the exhibition context has taken him to Venice under the artistic direction of Laurent Jacob and to Rome with Pierre-Olivier Rollin and Frank Maes.
He has been collaborating for some years now with his sister Françoise Berlanger on multidisciplinary theatrical, performance and musical creations, which resulted in the creation of Penthesilea in 2006. He has recently started working with the Galerie Rodolphe Janssen in Brussels.
