Paolo da Firenze was one of the most refined composers of the Trecento.
His music was rooted in the ideals of courtly love and the painful “self-expression” inspired by one’s devotion to a Lady. As such, his music contributes to the great transformation of Western sensitivity, heralding the arrival of the Renaissance.

Ictus has graciously agreed to accompany Thomas Baeté’s ClubMediéval in this evocation. The fourteenth and twenty first century will converse with one another over time and through poetic associations: a musical meditation by Sanchez-Verdù evokes the subtleties of the Ars Subtilior — while the dark minimalism of Klaus Lang is like something straight out of Ingmar Bergman’s Seventh Seal.

The Master of Ceremony is a fascinating artist who is difficult to pin down, namely Michaël Liberg, a composer and singer, a lute player for Jordi Savall and a Minimoog player on Sundays, the inventor of a beautiful stringed instrument-fiction, the “bowed cittern”. Liberg will gather the two ensembles for the creation of a new work inspired by medieval modality and the electronics of Brian Eno.
