MEYOUCYCLE
MEYOUCYCLE

A moonlight tryst of a future cult in the dark woods of the dark web, Meyoucycle (me-you-cycle) is a political science fiction fantasy concert about expression in the age of hyper-capitalism and technological mediation. Personal ads, old-school letters, chat-bots, tweets, untameable rants, word-jazz, poetic terrorism, sound and vision collide in a rumination on contemporary and near-future life and the intense forces and interfaces that shape it.
"Meyoucycle" sounds like "musical" pronounced in a vaguely foreign accent - that is to say, Meyoucycle creates something unfamiliar to what can be identified as a musical, but with similar ingredients. As a me-you-cycle, Meyoucycle is about intersubjectivity, in process as well as product – how meaning is produced between you's and me's, how we communicate, share, and make sense. An experience beyond the sum of its parts, floating between genres of musical and theatrical performance, Meyoucycle reaches for what we don't yet know about ourselves, our powers, our words, our feelings.
Meyoucycle is conceived and directed by Eleanor Bauer and Chris Peck, who have been artistic collaborators for over 10 years. Their work together has taken many forms of conceptual and aesthetic diversity, bringing together dance, performance, music, singing, and text. Meyoucycle carries this multifaceted collaboration one step further towards a synthesis of these myriad artistic affinities. The song is central: always relatively short and isolated, songs are often written to communicate a feeling, idea or message. Meyoucycle emphasizes this directness in combination with the role of intuition and the poetics of nonsense, soft-sense, almost-sense, and multi-sense that are common practices in songwriting. The words and music spill out of their song containers and bleed into a single transforming texture substance wherein feeling and thinking, hearing and understanding, seeing and imagining, virtual life and real life are continuous.
